Carefree Sundial: Carefree, Arizona

Carefree Sundial

Much like the London Bridge that was moved to Lake Havasu City Arizona, the Carefree Sundial was built to attract tourists and prospective home buyers to the respective areas. The famous Sundial in Carefree, AZ was designed by solar engineer John Yellott and architect Joe Wong.

The Sundial was completed in 1959 and is the largest sundial in the country and third-largest in the Western Hemisphere. It stands 35 feet tall, extends 72 feet and is 90 feet in diameter. Located in Sundial Circle Plaza in downtown Carefree AZ, this huge dial is made of steel and plated with anodized copper. A sunburst of colored glass hangs from the gnomon making the Carefree landmark a great photographic target during the early morning sunrise or at sunset.

The Carefree Sundial is located in downtown Carefree at 100 Easy Street.
